A few projects we've been working on.

Unfortunately, picnik will be closing up it's doors soon and it's breaking my heart. But, you have until April 19 to have all sorts of fun creating for FREE.

If you belong to that crowd you should at least dust off your heels, pull out the red lips, and plan a lunch date with your BFF! Seriously...at the very least, I challenge you to wash your hair and apply a coat of lip gloss on 2.14.12. Extra credit if you wear falsies (eyelashes that is) and a push up bra!

My kids went crazy when they got home from school the other day and saw what I had done to the kitchen. It makes us happy. Cheesy? Probably. But we heart it. I did this last year too with vintage valentines I printed off and then stuck them around the house. Such an easy, inexpensive, and "you're the greatest mom ever" project to do with your kids.

It's almost Valentine's Day. Are you ready?

A meal we LOVE in our home.

Homemade burgers, fries, and strawberry milkshakes.

Burgers: Grilled (I live in AZ!)
Fries: Heat oven to 425 degrees, spray pan, cut potatoes and drizzle with olive oil and
spinkle with Johnny's salt, bake for about 30 min.
Shake: Low fat frozen yogurt, fresh strawberries, skim milk, blend away.

Easy. Quick. Delicious.

Today's idea is nothing new. It's actually quite simple. In fact to most it's probably too old fashion. However, it's one of my most favorite things to give and receive.

What is it you ask?

A hand written love note.

We all have those in our lives who we love with all our heart. But, due to life circumstances we may not be able to see them or talk to them everyday. I'm sure many of us have a long lost girlfriend out there who we keep "meaning" to call or a grandparent who is all alone.

Well, today is the day to reconnect. And I don't mean reconnect with an e-mail, a text, or that thing we we call a phone conversation~which in and of itself is becoming a lost art in this world of texting.

Connect with a very simple love note and mail it.

EVERYONE loves to get good mail.

So, I challenge you to think of someone in your life who you could share some love with. It doesn't have to be sappy love, just fun love. Your small act of sharing love will not only make the person on the receiving end happy, but it will make you happy too!

A little bite of heaven.

I present to you the World's BEST (and easiest) peanut butter kiss cookies.

Ever!

1 18oz. jar of creamy peanut butter

1 1/4 cups sugar

2 eggs

Mix all together on medium speed for 1-2 min.

Roll in small balls. Bake at 350 for about 10 min.

Remove from oven and top with a chocolate morsel.

(I usually top with a Hersey Kiss but for V-day I chose choco. hearts)

Warning: This recipe makes about 50 cookies and they are so delicious that you will want to eat them all yourself. Then you will have a fat butt. So, prepare now to give a few plates of these away.

Seriously, make these! They are a hit every time!

Today I am proud of myself. Yep, I just bragged a bit. A couple days ago I threw myself to the wind and sent out a random e-mail to a group of girls from play group that I don't really know. In the e-mail I told them I was bored and needed friends (really, I did) and invited them to my home for a little get together that took place last night. TA DA....now I have 10 new friends. Yay me!

(Note: To those of you who may not have heard, we moved to Arizona 5 mo. ago. hence my desperation for friends.)

What did we do?

We made Valentines for our loved ones. I think it's safe to say everyone had a LOVELY time.

Are you bored and sitting home feeling sorry for yourself because you have no friends? Or maybe you have plenty of friends but are in need of girl time? Well, be bored no more. Make some calls and do the simple project shown above. I promise, there are 10 other women out there closer to you than you could ever imagine yearning for an invite. Did I really just use the word yearning?

You can copy and paste the "14 things I love about you" image designed by moi right off my blog into a word document. 4 will fit to a page. I hate it when someone tells me this. Why? Because I have been around long enough to already know that when I "plan", life runs much smoother. So....here is your motivation. PLAN!

Question: What would YOU like to see happen on Valentine's Day? Then plan it!

I have been married for {almost} 15 years. If I want something to happen, I make it happen. My Prince Charming is very thoughtful and adorable and loving and wonderful and totally hot (Are you all barfing now?) BUT...if I don't tell him my expectations or do the planning myself then there's going to be disappointment. The End.

How do we spend our day of LOVE?

For {almost} 15 yrs Prince Charming and I take the day off, send the children to school and take ourselves to lunch and the spa. The date is set, the expectations are clear, we avoid V-day evening craziness, and we have a wonderful time. This has been our tradition for {almost} 15 yrs. No fighting about where to go to dinner. No me getting annoyed that he spent too much money on stupid roses. Our gift to each other is a spa treatment and time together...perfection!

The people in my household enjoy a fancy breakfast on the weekend so Prince Charming and I made delicious crepes. However, Prince Charming likes to call them "craps" and he thinks it's funny. So do the children, but I think it's stupid (okay maybe a little funny but I wouldn't tell him that). Only he would turn something fancy like crepes, said with a French accent of course, into poop.

I spied with my little eye...Kels doing Lu lu's nails. Look, they even got a magazine so they wouldn't ruin the table.

Have you seen these mini cans of Dr. Pepper? I drink soda once in a never but a baby can of this kills a headache for me like no drug can. Plus, it's so cute!

He Cares

Last night I had a shopping date with my 9 yr old son. Before Christmas he saw these shoes (pic below) and really wanted them. Well, when we hit the store last night he knew exactly what he wanted.

Although I spent more on the dumb things then I wanted to, the second he put them on I could tell he felt like the coolest kid on the planet. He did a little dance in them (literally) and stood a little taller. He was proud. Not that our children need the newest and coolest and greatest and most expensive of things but, what they do need is a healthy dose of self confidence. A lot of moms out there think their sons could care less about how they look. I bet you'd be surprised. We Mommy's need to teach our boys how to comb their hair, match their shirts to their shorts, and get after them when they fart in public. We need to teach them to care and we need to feed them with confidence daily. Why? Because we want them to marry well!;)

Watching my son feel good about himself was really cool.

See, told ya shoes matter! (hee hee)

Funny Story: So there's this punk kid at school who every now and again comments on the way my 9 yr old son dresses. Well yesterday my son was wearing a navy puffy vest and the punk kid was making fun of him for wearing a "girl coat". My 9 yr olds response back to him was,

What do I know about cosmetics? Not a whole lot. But, I do know that I am a HUGE fan of benefit products. Here's one of their newest arrivals and it will be sure to please! The most common question I get about my skin is my "glow" (ha ha). How do I get this? I buy it in a bottle. Really! I like to believe that lots of water and exfoliating 1-2 times a week with Burts Bees Citrus scrub helps too. Anyway, highlighters are beautiful thing! DO IT. Invest in a highlighter. Everyone will be asking you what your secret is.

Wondering which one to start with?

My suggestion would be high beam.

I put a dot on the tip of my nose, chin, and three dots on each cheek bone then blend away.

Voila!

Let me fill you in on a few secrets I may have.

I eat frozen burritos for lunch. Often. I despise making lunch for myself. If I and my body didn't know better I'd skip lunch all together. They taste like nasty crap and I overcook them probably 90% of the time. Oh, and in case you were wondering they're like low cal, high protein, pieces cardboard that can be found in the freezer section at your local Costco. However, I don't recommend them.

Seriously.

If you came to my house before noon you'd probably find me wearing some hideous fashion similar to the one pictured above. Often you'll find me eating my burrito wearing this same attire.

Seriously.

I cut my hair short thinking maybe I'd actually style it. Nope. Come to find out I really hate flat ironing my hair no matter what the length is. So, pathetic messy "mini" pony it is.

Seriously.

I seriously HATE this tile floor. Know what I hate more than this tile floor? Cleaning it!

If I could get away with it I'd probably wear these red jeans everyday.

Here it is 4:25AM as I type. I cannot sleep and tears run down my face. Not because I'm sad. At least I don't think so. But, because I'm exhausted. Exhausted from all the wonder that has been whirling around in my head.

I wonder when house #2 will sell?
I wonder when my baby will sleep through the night?
I wonder who I will find to cut my hair?
I wonder what the reading specialist will say when I tell her I'm pulling my son from her stupid program?

And back to hectic life we go. The first full week in January ended and we said our good byes to all things Holiday. The tree is down, the goodies are gone, and the new toys have found their new homes. I don't know about you but for me January is a time to refresh, rethink, and switch things up a bit.

A post Holiday trip to Target is always a must. Hey, we needed laundry soap. I picked up this silly gold ottoman to help liven my living room. Not that it needs "livening". I have a billion colors and textures already going on in there. Funny thing...Lulu calls our formal living room the "talking room". You know, the room that only gets used once a month for special visitors.

And the chalkboard has been updated. The kids came up with a few things that make them happy.

Soooo, if you haven't done so already, this is the week to move the couch to a new spot, maybe paint that table you have been meaning to, or refresh the picture arrangement on your wall. Go for it!

Choosing Happiness

{THE TRUTH}

I have never been a believer in New Year resolutions. I personally think they act as a set up for failure. However, I do believe that the beginning of a new year is a great time to evaluate life, ponder, dream, let go, and move forward.

{EVALUATE}

I want to have a house I can call my own in Arizona. Shoes...house....shoes...house...hmmm....

I'm thinking a house trumps shoes. Don't you?;)

{PONDER}

Moving to Arizona has been hard on all of us. Harder than I imagined. Was it a good idea to move? Absolutely! 1000% no regrets! Change is good.

{DREAM}

I want to go to NY, take a ballet class, buy a piano, learn to paint on canvas, bake a chocolate cake from scratch, reopen my etsy shop, teach again.

{LET GO}

There are things in life we have no control over. For example, the housing market. We have had two houses to get rid of in Washington. The market sucks and there's nothing we can do about it. Nothing.

(BTW house #1 closed on Dec. 27~yay~house #2 hits the market Jan. 3. Cross your fingers for a quick sell.)

{MOVE FORWARD}

Life is good. We are happy. We are blessed. And although each day brings it's challenges, this year we will choose happiness.

We're kinda fancy around here during the Holidays.

Maybe I should have followed the advice of the Costco lady and pre-soaked my wreath before displaying. In Washington these things never die!

Christmas is almost here.
I certainly have I meant to do this and I meant to do that on my list but, I have let them go. Let them go and moved on.

My children don't care about the perfectly wrapped gifts under the tree or the stockings hung by the chimney with care. However, they do adore the simple cuddle on the couch during the Christmas TV special and the basket full of Christmas stories.

Today let us move on, enjoy the Holiday, and pay attention to what matters most.

Dear Santa,

So you have been nagging me for a while now about what I want for Christmas. I know I keep saying nothing but, I changed my mind. I finally know what I want for Christmas and it (potentially) won't cost you a dime. The gift of time. Time alone (no offense). Before we moved here everyone told me that the shopping in Scottsdale is AMAZING! And although I've been able to have a taste of this shopping mecca located only 30 min. away from our home, it has always been with children. Well that really doesn't count. So, I have decided that what I want for Christmas is a day to do whatever I want (I promise I won't get a tattoo) up in Scottsdale. No curfews, no phones calls asking when I'm coming home, just a day to play. Just me, by myself.

Thanks Santa. There ya have it.

This morning the rain woke me to a complete panic because I thought I was waking up in Washington and the whole Arizona move was just a dream. It was the strangest thing. I don't miss the weather in Washington a single bit. Nada. No Way. Nope.

Who knew rain boots would come in handy in Arizona? For a day anyway.

P.S. Yes Dad, I paid money for those jeans and yes, they came with the holes.

(My Dad always gives me a hard time for spending money on holey jeans. What does he know?)

Guess I won't be reading my morning paper today.

Christmas is making me tired. Really tired. I'm ready to move on and I hate that!

As I was walking out of Target Saturday night a young mother who didn't speak English very well was standing by the door with her tiny baby girl asking for help. My heart ached for her. Did she have any food to eat? Did she have a safe place to go? Did she have what she needed to take care of her baby?

May we all find it in our hearts this season to give, even if it's little, to one who is in need.

Because...that is truly a big part of what CHRISTMAS is all about.

IDEA:
I think I've shared this before but some of our favorite gifts have been tickets to events. Every year we all get a set of tickets to a special event (ie; Lucy~ Disney on Ice) in our stockings. Only two tickets per person are given so that the event can be a special date. Plus, it's more affordable. Our kids love getting these tickets just as much as any toy from Santa. Really. (Tip: For little ones you may want to print a picture of the event so they can connect what the tickets are for.)
Need a gift for your Prince Charming? How about plane tickets (check cheapoair.com I've found some great deals), football tickets or tickets to the opera.-wink

Because I'm kinda special me and special guest were able to attend a private Holiday shopping event at Nords last night. It was a delightful evening and a nice break from life. Upon entering the store at approx. 7:30 PM Nordstrom employees lined up on either side of the door and applauded as we entered the store. How's that for a celebrity-like entrance? Once inside we were greeted with trays full of hor d'oeuvres (okay it just took me 15 min. to figure out how to spell that word) delicious bite-sized desserts and other fancy this's and that's. Along with amazing customer service, the best shoe department around and an out-of-this-world return policy.... just another reason why I adore Nordstrom. Fine. Call me a snob because I shop at Nordstrom. Whatever you mom jean, turtle neck, mule shoe wearers!;)

Made a rediscovery tonight.

Everyone MUST, MUST, MUST have Santa put

On Dec. 1 Santa swings buy and drops off Christmas pj's and advent calendars for all.

I know the more traditional way to do this is to open them on Christmas Eve but, "Santa" likes us to enjoy our pj's all month long. They arrive in a bag like THIS on the front porch wrapped in special Santa paper.

Okay so remember a couple posts back I was hoping Santa would bring me these (pic above) in silver? Well just kidding. I saw them in person and they are TOTALLY fugly. Like super FUGLY barf-o-rama. BUT..never fear, I found a fabulous replacement. Black velvet Toms. How cute would these be? Sassy dressy with some casual comfort on the side. ADORBS! You should ask for these to be placed under the tree. They would look so cute on all of you. And you'll be the coolest Mom ever!

Oh, but there's more. Red glitter Toms. Now that's Fancy like Nancy. And they come in mini sizes too.

That's A Little Odd

Oh for crap sake.

(My dad say's that. it cracks me up.)

Let me start by sharing my yesterday.

We woke up late.

Lucy had a SERIOUS case of bed head. Serious case. Like unbelievable case.

Lost 1/2 a gallon of apple juice on the floor. Didn't tip. Splattered! All over.

Wore my running skirt to workout that has little shorties underneath. Half way through workout realized skirt was tucked in shorties. (All I could do was laugh. Out loud.)

Put Berkie down for nap.

Settled outside for a moment of quiet in the sun.

Lawn chair collapsed. Seriously?

20 min. later got Berkie out of bed. Apparently he thought he didn't need a nap. So much for quiet time in the sun.

Went to Costco and Lucy dumped ice cream all over her ballet suit. Note: We hadn't been to ballet yet.

Walked into Old Navy and was welcomed by this mannequin.

I laughed. I laughed like really hard.

What's wrong with this picture?

It's probably really not all that funny, but I couldn't stop laughing.

Wait...

I'm not done.

Here's the icing on the cake. Ready?

Prince Charming came home (he's been out of town) and told me all about THIS amazing hotel where he at fancy food and played pool on a blinged out pool table.

Awesome.

But, I'm the lucky one because I get to stay home and enjoy rainbows and popsicles with the children.

Oh oh...I forgot something. The first thing out of Prince Charming's mouth when he saw me was, "Do you know you have mascara all over your face?"

{sigh}

Thank goodness for tomorrows.

What's this skinny hype all about?

skin-ny jeans (noun) 1. snug fit in leg that end with small opening 2. pant that makes you think you're going to look "skinny" but when you try them on you realize you are a hippo 3. may cut off circulation 4. muffin top troubles? skinny jeans are the perfect enhancement.

Is that how you feel about the skinny?

Okay, okay. Skinny jeans are nothing new on the fashion scene and you might be one who finds them hideous. But, have you ever tried a pair on? Trust me. There is a pair out there waiting for you and your booty. Perfectly paired with flats, heels or boots you'll look sexy all the way. Really. Just try.

Note: You will not find the perfect pair at Target. I know. Purchase them from a place like American Eagle and you'll like you're in junior high. Buy from XXI and your butt will break through them. Upgrade a little and you'll love them a lot.

How do I prefer the skinny?

I like cropped ones, with wedge booties and banded bottom tops.

(I don't like a lot of extra pant hanging around my ankle. That's why I prefer the crop skinny.)

I just discovered THESE in "ankle" length. I highly recommend starting with a pair of these.

P.S. Tooth incident update: "And we wait". Went to endodontist today and he wants us to wait for TWO weeks and then x-ray again. I will learn to embrace the snaggle tooth and love it as we endure to the end of this tooth saga. I'm such a vain Mother.

Slight Delay

Yesterday we had a tradgey occur in our home. We lost a loved one that has been with us for 14.5 yrs. What Mommy in her right mind allows her 1 yr. old to play with the stacking GLASS bowl set? Especially when there's a plastic one in the cupboard next door? She should totally be fired!

If you don't have THESE in your kitchen you need them. Seriously! However, they are not to be used for entertaining the children. Serves me right. Grrrr...

Halloween 2011

Dear Diary,

This year Halloween was a pain in the ass. There, I said it. Here is how my Holiday went....

1. Made grocery list for delicious home cooked Halloween meal. Lost grocery list.

2. Went to school and watched kindergarten costume parade. It was sorta dumb. Lucy was darling of course, but I gotta be honest, it was dumb.

3. Went to grocery store and shopped off imaginary grocery list while wrestling Berks to sit in the stupid cart. Kill me now please!

4. Made treats which were originally intended to be delivered to neighbors. Instead, spent way too much time making them cute and delivered them to hubs co-workers. None were left for nieghbors.

5.Went back to school and delivered Halloween treats to teachers that could have potentially looked like I was giving them alcohol. Nice.

6. Called hubs and told him to pick up take out.
7. Yelled at Lucy for smearing her make up.
8. Cleaned puke off Kels costume. Seriously?
9. Turned lights off and ditched the trick-or-treaters.
10. Now (and for the next 3 weeks) cleaning massive amounts of spray glitter off my bathroom floor.

Stole cotton candy from my children.

And there you have it.

Don't get me wrong. I am a lover of everything Holiday. But, sometimes

I can't help but ask, "Is it worth it?"

What I learned at Disney.

1. Dumbo is NOT worth the wait.
2. Indiana Jones is a super rad ride.
3. Ladies walking around with dolls like they're their children is creepy. Don't ask.
4. I really don't care for churos.
5. Babies suck at Disney.
6. Disney in October is the best.
7. No matter how old, I will always love the princesses.
8. Disney parades make me tear up.
9. Your guide on the Jungle Cruise makes all the difference.
10. Shrug your shoulders at what you can't control and savor the moment.

I was home for like a day and now I'm off to a wedding. See you next week sometime.

Halloween is a big deal in our house!

What am I going to do when my kiddos no longer fit in THESE Halloween jammies?

That will be a tragic day in our home.

We made THESE sugar cookies. Halloween style of course.

I gotta be honest. I really don't enjoy the sugar cookie making process (especially with children at my side) but THESE are pretty tasty. BTW all the recipes on the blog are great! I totally recommend purchasing their cookbook.

Found this pretty little lady at my new favorite store. I call her Pearl. Isn't she hideously divine?!

Got over myself and my snotty "I'm not going to decorate since this home is a temp" attitude and started decorating our 82 ft. entrance hall of fame. Okay, so it's not 82 ft. but it's a LONG wall. I'm just getting started. I need to make room for Pearl of course! Do you like it?

If you do...

Here's my decorating advice if you are struggling to find your own decorating style:

Grab things that you would NEVER think to put together and just start hanging. You never know what you may come up with. IMPORTANT!! As you begin to hang pics place the nail hole 6 inches lower than where you think it should go. Number one decorating mistake I see~ Wall art hung way tooooo high!

Now run along and go create your own home run.

Weekend Happenings

1. Went to a cycling class that kicked my butt. Pretty sure I almost died. Twice.
2. Laid by pool. It's September! Can't quite comprehend this AZ weather yet.
3. Actually cleaned the toilets instead of just thinking about it.
4. Looked at a big fat house we can't afford. That sucks.
5. Discovered a new "greatland" Target. I was in red bullseye heaven!
6. Enjoyed browsing THIS blog. Check it out. You'll like it.
7. Created friendship bracelets (finally) with my children.
8. Made mini pies.
9. Ate a hot dog.
10. Finished my book.

Wow...that was boring!

So I know the Nords workers get paid to tell their customers how fabulous they look but, yesterday while I was in there at least 6 people stopped me and asked me about my outfit. Shhh! Don't tell. Not a single thing I was wearing was from Nords. Scarf~ Old Navy ($12) Crazy orange jumpsuit thing~Marshall's bargain ($15). Shoes~Target clearance ($10). There you have it Nordstrom workers. It doesn't cost millions to look fabulous!:D
